After the North Koreans pushed the South Korean forces all the way to the Pusan area, the American and United Nations' forces made a bold landing at Inchon. MacArthur's decision to pursue this amphibious invasion was extremely risky due to the very harsh terrain. Besides the risk involved, the landing proved to be successful, and the NKPA was pushed back above the 38th parallel. After Seoul (the capital of South Korea) was gained back by the South Korean, US, and UN forces, MacArthur received demands to continue pursuing the North Koreans well into North Korea. The capital of North Korea, Pyongyang, was captured and the North Koreans were driven nearly to the border of Korea and China.
